Belawan Port Basin and Access Channel Maintenance Dredging

PT. Bina Mitra Indosejahtera has been regularly providing marine service in Belawan Port due to its high sand and clay sedimentation buildup in basin area. Now, at the increased target depth of -7 m LWS along over 1000 m long and 100 m wide dredging area, the team in Clamshell Dredger GJ 701 and the pair of Split Barge Hoppers GJ 501 and GJ 502 work at higher precision to overcome the challenge.

At the same time and around the same vicinity, the channel navigation dredging work is underway, with the 5000 cubic meters in capacity of Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Bali II spearheads the 13 km long dredging route, and at -9.6 m LWS. The combined volume of basin and channel dredging amounts to 2.4 million cubic meters, which, according to the contract with the port authority, is scheduled to finish in 180 days.

As the project owner, Otoritas Pelabuhan is responsible to ensure a safe sea traffic and other port activities in a busy circumstances. They acknowledge the two main factors that contribute to the level of difficulty in doing dredging work in Belawan Port: unfriendly weather and the crowded sea lanes. On the other hand, the company realize that these could potentially undermine the daily outcome.

In order to prevent the accumulation of task load and overdue result, strategic anticipations are made such as stationing a backup Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Inai Kesuma with 1200 cubic meters in capacity, and to ensure adequate parts supplies to conduct a timely on-site reparations whenever necessary.

PT. Bina Mitra Indosejahtera has three Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers at its disposal, being the last one is the 4000 cubic meters Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger Sorong.
